Swenson Motorsports 33s Getting an FZ-09 Upgrade for the 2026 Season
Swenson Motorsports is set to elevate its 33s program for the 2026 racing season with a significant performance upgrade, transitioning to the Yamaha FZ-09 powerplant.
The FZ-09’s CP3 triple-cylinder engine is well known for its strong mid-range torque, quick throttle response, and broad powerband — characteristics that translate well to the demands of short-track racing. The new setup is expected to deliver improved acceleration off the corners and more consistent power throughout long feature events.
Leading the conversion effort is Cal Swenson, Lead Mechanic for Swenson Motorsports, who brings direct experience with the FZ-09 platform. Cal previously oversaw the team’s successful transition to the FZ-09 in the 19x car during the 2025 season, giving him valuable insight into the mechanical, electrical, and packaging challenges involved in the swap. That prior experience is expected to streamline the process and help ensure the 33s are competitive early in the 2026 campaign.
The FZ-09 platform offers a balance of performance and reliability that should make the 33s package both fast and durable over the course of the season, particularly in high-grip conditions where throttle control and torque delivery are critical.
With the 2026 season approaching, anticipation is building to see the Swenson Motorsports 33s hit the track with their new FZ-09 configuration.
